My Finger Injury
At some point climbing up the gorge, I took a fall and scratched myself up. Nothing serious, just par for the course. But I fell on my left hand and my ring cut into my finger a bit. I chose to ignore it and continued on for the rest of the fun-filled day. But by the time the day had ended and we sat having beers at the top of the gorge, my finger had swelled significantly and my ring was cutting off circulation to my finger.
I put it in the cooler for 5 minutes, but it was almost too late to do any good. That's when Becky the wonder-med-student showed up. She and her friend Josh had been hanging with us for part of the day while we were on the different jumps, and was quite amusing. She was from Ontario, had dreadlocks and bare feet, and had been working at different hospitals around the world and was hanging in Zambia for a while. Anyway, she took one look at my finger and went to work. She felt around my hand and determined that it wasn't broken so started to twist my ring off my finger. Definitely not the best thing I've ever felt, but I was thrilled that she was getting the ring off. After about 5 minutes of me gritting my teeth, the ring came off and I was thrilled. It's all better now!
